My 21st Century Literacies

This page is dedicated to what 21 Century literacies and skills I have.

21st Century Literacies: Text

Media Literacy

In order to be literate in media, you must be able to understand all forms of communication online. Media Literacy can be found within text messages, phone calls, the news, and emails (etc). I have learned to be literate in media because it has been slowly integrated into my childhood. Everyday when I was younger I would watch the news with my parents so now I know how the news works.

Digital Literacy

In order to be digitally literate, you have to understand many concepts with technology. This includes how to be safe, how to communicate, and how to find information online. In elementary school, these skills were drilled into students at a young age, so that is how I became digitally literate today.

Emotional Literacy

In order to be emotionally literate, you must have to know how to comprehend and show your emotions. It can be any type of emotion, happy, sad, angry, etc. I have learned to be literate with emotions because when I don't express them, everything starts to become bottled up, so it is something that I taught myself.

Visual Literacy

In order to be visually literate, you have to understand what an image or video means. This is different than actual literacy because there are no words involved. I have always been visually literate because I learn better that way, rather than just using words or someone telling what something means to me.

Academic Literacy

In order to be academically literate, you have to be able to comprehend the subjects you learn in school. This includes English, Math, Science, History, and Language. Since I have been in school for almost my whole life, I have been taught these subjects by teachers and am still being taught them.
